Frequently asked questions
Useful answers before you begin.
Understand what the tools can do, what they cannot do and how to use the information responsibly.
01Is HowToMoney providing personal financial advice?
No. The website provides general educational information and estimates. It does not consider your full circumstances and is not a substitute for regulated, personalised financial advice.
02Are the calculator results guaranteed?
No. Results depend on the values and assumptions entered. Inflation, investment returns, tax, fees, interest rates and personal circumstances can differ materially.
03Are the amounts shown before or after tax?
Each calculator explains its own basis. Unless stated otherwise, salary and income figures are generally gross amounts before personal income tax.
04How often should I review a financial plan?
At least annually and whenever something important changes, such as income, employment, dependants, debt, health, insurance or retirement plans.
05Can I use these tools on my phone?
Yes. The site and calculators are designed for phones, tablets and desktop screens.
06Why do the tools use assumptions?
Future values cannot be known in advance. Assumptions make the estimate transparent and let you test how different outcomes could affect the result.
07Do I need to create an account?
No. The calculators can be used without an account. Values entered into a calculator are used to produce the estimate on your device and should not be treated as a permanent financial record.
08Does HowToMoney sell financial products?
No. HowToMoney is an independent financial-education platform. It does not sell financial products or receive instructions to implement financial transactions.
09Can I rely on retailer, travel, tax or medical-scheme information?
Use it as a planning starting point and check the calculator's source date and assumptions. Prices, tax rules, benefits, availability and product terms can change, and the provider's current information remains authoritative.
010How can I report an error or suggest a calculator?
Use the contact page or email info@howtomoney.co.za. Please include the calculator name and enough detail for the issue or idea to be understood, but do not send sensitive personal or financial information.
